Idemitsu Museum of Arts

My wife and I are the first time traveling to Tokyo from Canada. We went to visit the museum for its Chinese ceremiscs collection which was highly advertised and promoted on its website and travel books. However, we didn't see a single piece from the collection this afternoon. The museum attendants explained to me that the Chinese collection is not exhibited throughout the year, but only during special exhibition. So you will be lucky to see any Chinese collection if you are a visitor. The nice thing is it has a nice sitting area with free teas and great view.

As interesting as a ceramics museum can be - quite interesting until a point.

Lovely place. Delicated exhibition. Tasteful matchatea.

The exhibits are alright. Nothing to write home about. The views are probably the best part.

I work for Idemitsu in America and the museum here I Ginza is so full of rich history that I stop by every time I'm in Tokyo. They change the showings about every 60 days so there is always something new to see. I find it refreshing that a 100+ year old company is still supportive of the arts and their community. The founder of our company, Sazo Idemitsu, had a love for art and his dedication lives on after his passing. When you visit the museum ask about the authentic tea room and when and why they use it. It's a great story. Enjoy
