Staying at the Fujioto was the highlight of our trip to Japan! We had such a wonderful time - Sue and the team were just fantastic and so welcoming and friendly. The food is outstanding and it was so nice to receive an explanation of all the wonderful dishes. We also loved the bath! We hope to come back and visit again - I cannot recommend this place enough :)

It's worth every yen! For a true and nice Japanese experience you have to sleep and eat here. I'm so glad we could stay here. I was so happy with everything! The hosts are so nice and friendly. The rooms are beautiful and so is the garden. The food is worth 5 stars.

Japan must! This is the perfect place to rest after the walk from Magome. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Dinner and breakfast menus are excellent. All about traditional local cuisine. Rooms are great to experience the traditional ryokan experience. The owner speaks many languages And helped us with the trains and buses timetables to get to our next destination. Book in advance is required

Franco (as he likes to be called b/c he spent years learning Italian) is a kind owner and took care of us with the most detail. He remembered when I inspected the ryokan during my time working at a travel agency and gave us the best room overlooking the outdoor koi pond; the ryokan has years of charm, has clean facilities with a hot public bath drawn at 3pm. The best part: the 8-course dinner that Franco served and explained to us. His wife is the chef and every dish was prepared with care. Definitely earned all of its awards as best ryokan.

Love the place, superb service from the host, great meal for someone who is fussy eater. Room was perfectly set up. Gives really the vibe from old town. You can walk to Nakasendo trail from Tsumago to Magome.
