Another timeslip experience. Things don't change much around here... Sometimes for the better, sometimes...well, enjoy the nostalgia.
Just surfaced from a two hour soak where the pools vary from 42 degrees to 5 degrees. Facilities are aged but still great. There is a Korean scrub option as well as steam and sauna, indoor and outdoor pools. Several restaurants, 3 karaoke rooms (1000 hour per room during the day.. old machine but still good for Enka fans).
Convenience store nearby for those who need a fast food did. Oh, there is a beach but at winter time of writing, heavy duty sand movers there and lots of keep out fences erected.... Strange. Hope summer is better.
Not much else going on in the Hitotsu Matsu area so hunker down and shrivel up.
Great Onsen in Chiba! They have many different onsen pools / baths inside and outside which was perfect for winter. They also had a Sauna, which had a TV in it. Interesting but kind of annoying for a sauna. There’s2-3 restaurants inside the onsen with different selection of food. Great place for a weekend away.
Wonderful onsen (spa) within a beach resort. Wonderful outdoor baths with various temperatures. Fantastic place to relax all year round!
(日本語は英語のメセジの下です) I only did the Onsen and didn’t stay in the resort. (It was 1600¥)
The restaurant from just outside of the actual resort had the most expensive Mac and cheese (1500¥) ever labeled as “the carbonara everyone loves” if you translate it to English. But I like Mac and cheese so that was fine for me.
I went into the bath water following explicit instructions from my friend, but I was surprised that the onsen’s water wasn’t as clean as I’d expect. This is my first onsen experience, so I don’t know if this is quite standard or not, but when I dipped my hair in the water it reeked pretty heavily of what I think was chlorine. And my skin is really sensitive so I got a bit itchy afterwards. There were also many bugs inside the building and in the water itself because the door outside had a hole the size of my fist in the bottom right hand corner.
The spa with the saunas were really nice because the Japanese people keep them really clean, though the white room where you lay on the rocks was closed. I’m not sure if you can do any of the rooms if you have a bad back, because you lay on the floor and put your head on a wood thing, and just hang out for like 15 minutes, and go out side to sit/ rehydrate, and then enter the next room for like 15 minutes. My back hurt a little afterwards, but after like ten minutes my body felt FANTASTIC.
My friend and I also got free ice cream from the restaurant up stairs and I LOVED the fact that it’s so close to the beach. I’d never seen such an empty beach before. I think it would be really cool for kids to go play at since the beaches I always went to in America were a little too crowded. BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU GO TO THE BATHROOM THERE! my friend and I had to rescue an old lady that was stuck in the handicapped stall because it rusted closed or something. I’m not sure why, but we couldn’t get it unstuck.
I don’t know if my review is helpful since I haven’t experienced other onsens to compare, but hopefully this was helpful!
Extremely unclean. Uncomfortable. Too much expensive for this service and equipments. Awful.
