Look. If you get in before 8:30, it’ll be a short visit. But it’s in Tachikawa and takes a long time to reach from Tokyo, so you and everyone else are going to have to wait. I’ve been coming for 7 years to renew my visa and although the service has always been fine and helpful, the fact that it’s chronically understaffed makes the visit infuriating. As other people have said, if they could just open the other windows to have people (who at least speak English) available specifically to answer all of the questions the wait times would be halved. I’ve never seen more than three people at the desk. The other windows have always been closed. And a quick peek behind the curtain when you’re up at the desk shows there’s nothing else going on in that space. After the initial visit to drop off your application, the return trip to pick up is smooth. It’s just the first visit that’s soul-crushing. If we didn’t have to be here every year, we wouldn’t choose to come. The experience is prohibitive and I often wonder if that’s the point.

No long queue like in Tokyo immigration. But of course there is applicants who didn’t prepare the document so well. Why they didn’t prepare at home or research at website???? That’s the reason the queue is more than 2 hours!!!! Btw tachikawa immigration don’t accept people who live in 23 tokyo area..

It looks comfortable for long time waiting. Stuff friendly and professional.

I went there in 2018 for HSP1 visa. I went early in the morning and there were less than 10 people waiting before me. I had all necessary documents ready so no questions asked. Just took me about an hour from the beginning and the process at the counter took just 5 min.

Go there before 8h30 am, take waiting number then you could finish soon at 9h15. There are not crownded like Shinagawa but if you go there after 1pm you could have to wait for 4 hours or more because there are just only 2 or maybe 3 staffs at the counter. It's better to search and prepare in advance all of your papers at home.
