柳森稲荷神社 Yamagimori Inari Jinja [willow forest fox shrine] 千代田区神田須田町 2-25-1 Kanda Sudacho in Chiyoda Ward 「おたぬきさま」 O-Tanuki Sama is the Deity worshipped here (with others). In addition to tanuki statues (with their huge testicles), you will find foxes, dragons, lions, cranes and more. There is a notable collection of 力石 Chikara-ishi [power stones]. These stones were hefted by sumo wrestlers at the turn of the 20th Century as a display of strength and are designated Tangible Folk Cultural Property of Chiyoda Ward. (So I did not attempt to lift them myself.) In the corner by the shrine entrance is the 神田柳森富士塚 Kanda Yanagimori Fujizuka, a small surrogate of Mt. Fuji meant to impart the spiritual benefits of climbing the sacred peak without having to travel to the real mountain (which, as I write this in 2020, is closed to climbers this year). The largest shrine in the precinct is 福壽神 Fukujushin. There are smaller shrines including 稲荷大明神 Inari Daimyōjin, 水神厳島神社・江島大明神 Suijin Itsukushima Jinja Ejima Daimyōjin (with a pair of guardian dragons), 明徳稲荷神社 Meitoku Inari Jinja and 秋葉大神 Akiba ōkami (guarded by a pair of lions with cranes carved into the wooden shrine).

Great shrine, would visit again. Walked past every day.

Such a relaxing place to sit and enjoy some peace and quiet. The tanuki statue is very unique.

The shrine was very clean and organized. Despite the fact that it is tiny, it is a beautiful shrine to visit if you are in the neighborhood

Pleasantly surprised by a shrine on my way to Tokyo Tower. What a beautiful place!
