Upon arriving at the house, I liked the area the home was in. Very quiet and not on a main road. Inside the house, everything was extremely clean and organized. The living room was beautiful and the garden was beautiful and added a calming and tranquil ambiance to the experience. When I went upstairs to the bedrooms, I was impressed with how nice they were. Sleeping in these beds gave me better sleep than my own bed, which is surprising. The beds were extremely comfortable and they smelt very clean. I really loved the bathrooms as well. Beautifully decorated. The house had everything you would need. Fridge, washer, dryer, and dishes. I’ve stayed in many hotels and this surpassed my expectations. If you’re looking for a beautiful home for a traditional Japanese experience, this place is for you. Good for you and friends, family or your spouse! Definitely recommend.

Absolutely loved staying at the Akebono Residence. Beautifully decorated, friendly staff, convenient location and great amenities. We felt so at home and enjoyed everything from the little garden to the fully equipped kitchen and warm duvets (it was so cold outside!). Really appreciate the thoughtfulness behind the entire experience.

Having lived in Japan for about twelve years and having stayed in many "traditional" Japanese houses, I was pleasantly surprised by Akebono-an. It has an excellent location in a safe but quiet side-street and is a very stylish refurbishment, combining the traditional and the modern in a totally convincing way. To top it all, the welcoming service provided was very friendly and professional. I would encourage anyone to stay in a house like this. (P.S. I don't think I've ever slept as well as in the luxurious double bed upstairs!)

On a recent trip to Kyoto, I first considered booking a hotel room. However, the more I learned about Kyoto, the more I abandoned the idea of staying in a hotel. Instead, I opted for a Machiya house. Akebono, a home on offer from Machiya Residence Inn, was the perfect mix of traditional Japanese accommodation and modern luxury. Upon entering the home, I felt a great sense of warmth and knew that I had made the right decision for my accommodation. Everything in the home was a delight. Richly colored accents and detailed architectural features immediately peaked my interest. The bathroom was luxurious and the western beds were more than comfortable. Honestly, I didn’t want to leave the home. But an experience at Akebono isn’t just about the sleek construction or the tranquil feel found in the nearby streets. The details are what make this place so special. From the custom coffee to the lavish soaps, the welcome letter to the provided pajamas, the amenities were just as impressive as the design of the house. I highly recommend Akebono and the Machiya Residence Inn. Can’t wait for another visit.

Check-in was a breeze! Easy instructions were sent to my e-mail to access the house. It has a traditinal Japanese vibe with a mix of modern design. It is quite spacious its good for family with kids. It is very nice and homey. They provide stove, water heater, cutleries, fridge, IH cooker, washing machine and a microwave. It is also a few steps from the bus station and from the Toji temple. We really loved out stay at this house.
