Excellent stay here. I can’t recommend it enough.
Was a little tricky to get to not being used to the buses yet, but very close to a couple bus stations, just not the subway.
Our host was so friendly. She sat with us at her bar, poured us great whisky and gave us excellent recommendations for the city. Rooms were spacious, comfortable and air conditioned. Great ryokan experience
One of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. They were super helpful and we didn’t have to plan anything in advance. They let us use the bikes and helped us plan every day in Kyoto. They also made reservations at some of the best restaurants I have ever been to. We spent 2.5 weeks in Japan and the 4 days here were by far the highlight of the trip.
Beautiful ryokan. The host and staff were fantastic. Staying in the main house was really nice. Spend time in the bar and do an Umeshu tasting, it was excellent. Also make sure to use the free bikes, biking was a highlight. Stay here!!
Absolutely superb in every aspect. Extraordinary hospitality, exceptionally comfortable, wonderful breakfasts, and a terrific bar (ask Tomei about scotch) all within the thoughtful and stylish contemporary restoration of a traditional Kyoto house. The best of Japan.
I highly recommend staying at ryokan mugen for a night or two if you are traveling through Kyoto. The owners are a very sweet husband and wife duo. They are extremely nice and helpful for tips on places to go, where to eat, and how to get more authentic experiences while avoiding tourist traps. I enjoyed all aspects of my stay, especially interacting with the owner, who really tries to get to know you and help in anyway.
The only downside is that the location is not the most ideal but there are many bus stops nearby so it was never a major issue.
