It’s a hotel for the ease of skiing and access to the hills, not much else to offer. The hotel is very dated and feels like a dorm reminiscent of the 1998 Olympic a that has seen little to no enhancements since then. The rooms are in serious need of refreshing with stained floors, hard mattresses and ever harder pillows. Overall the hotel gives you just what you need for a ski holiday but apart from great access to the hill it leaves you wanting more. The on premise restaurants are not worth the price at all. A 15min wall up the road to other hotels in the area offer a great variety of options and I found our best meal eating out.
Reserved a family room expecting more space and was compelled to get another room. The 4 of us crammed into a sardine tin for 11 days would be disastrous. This 2 bed had the same square meters as the family room. Furnishings are tired and the whole hotel looked worn. The food was very much the same every day which gets very tedious. Staff were not that friendly nor accomodating as to what I had experienced elsewhere in Japan. I wouldn't stay here more than 3 days.
It was okay. Location great but not my preferred style of ski accommodation. Rooms were reasonably priced but small, meals expensive, WiFi unreliable (downstairs), no drying room and, being fussy, near impossible to find a garbage bin in common areas. Reception was helpful. No equipment / space for board waxing etc rather you have to pay (a lot) for their staff to do tech work. Located on probably the best resort for riding though.
Clean but very basic. Limited English speaking staff. Within the resort meal tickets required to eat in restaurants. Basic food menu, little to no night life. Mountain is beautiful, ski in and ski out, intermediate difficulty runs. Short line, easy access to lift ticket counter and equipment rental.
For any Aussie’s heading to prince shiga to chase some good snow I want to say the following
We stayed in the south wing
The rooms were great , good hot shower , big enough beds, a table to have a few drinks with comfy chairs - great view of the slopes and modest size tv and fridge - not five star but very comfy and cosy
The buffet breakfast was a highlight everyday to fuel up for a days skiing, good variety.
The ski lockers were great
The gondola straight from the bottom level to the top was unreal
The shop on the bottom level stocked a good range of soft drinks water beers and vodka and even bottles of whiskey along with the chips and chocolates and ice cube pack for drinks
The staff were fantastic even with the language barrier to advise us on getting on busses to get to other mountains for boarding.
The prince shuttle bus to ichinose an other wings ran like clock work. Each day we caught the 5 o’clock bus to ichinose and returned at 7 from ichinose enough time to have a few drinks and eat - plenty of food options in ichinose and at a good price
We ate the prince west buffet one night at it was a great feed with all you can eat food an soft drink and coffee and well worth your 50 bucks Australian
The ski resort gave me the two best powder days I have ever boarded and that’s after 15 years of trips , big long runs , powder bowls , a really good steep black run and no lines for the gondolas all week .
I will return to shiga prince south again in 2022 to do it all over again
Don’t read into the bad reviews , yes it is a old
Building etc but it has been well maintained , clean , polite staff if you are serious about getting hours in on the mountain with ease and enjoying a few drinks and dinner at night you will get what your looking for at shiga prince .
Unreal trip
