Honestly, I was really worried about getting into this hotel and almost cancelled the booking after reading all the bad comments on TripAdvisor, japanican and google.
I am actually happy I maintained it! And hopefully to help you, let me share our experience: booked 1 night for my boyfriend and I. Our first ryokan experience!
Arrival: train, bus (every 20min) and then 10min walk. We were welcome at the entrance, someone helped with luggage, showed us the room. No stairs to get to the room. Large and comfy room!!! Had plenty of space for the 2 of us!
Kimonos, socks, towels, toothbrush, conditioner... provided
Onsen: stairs outside to go down to our private onsen. Size is ok for 2 japanese people (not super tall and no overweight) but you cannot really move inside. It was ok with us , just so you know :) view on river and forest, nice relaxing sound from the river... perfect! The onsen is not crazy hot, you can adjust the temperature :)
There are sometimes small particules floating but no dirt (as per other comment) the water comes from natural source, of course there might be couple floating particules..
Welcome drink: tea and 2 mochi
each - nice!
Diner: at 6pm, super large and very tasty diner !! sashimis, sushis, meat , soup, traditional Japanese dishes - food is good! Tasty and good quality diner. You eat a lot! All diner is served in your room, quite intimate!
After diner, at 8pm, they come and set up the futons for you. Good futon quality, had a good night!
At 7:30 am, they come and remove the futons
At 8:00, you have breakfast served in your room. Again, as big and tasty as diner!! Really good to start the day!
Check out is at 10:30am - you will
Be asked to pay a bath fee of 150 yen per person per night
warning! You cannot change any of the timings - they are NOT flexible. But really not an issue with us!
It has always been the same lady coming to our room. No english spoken but nice and helpful!
Tried to be factual so you know what to expect! We had a great time there :)
Great food, hospitality. Beautiful location.
3 I stayed overnight with my family because it is a room with meals and an open-air bath that can avoid crowds.
The building is old, but the rooms weren't cold and the baths were just right.
The food was just singing at a Japanese-style inn, and each dish was very delicious.
I think I want to go again.
I thought I was very good at taking pictures on the homepage.
The customer service of all the employees was refreshing and it was very good. I went with my child, but he was kind to me and made me feel very warm. Thank you very much.
The food was delicious.
The impression of the room and the hot spring was quite different from the photo.
There was a statement on the homepage that amenities were included, but it was like an almost empty rinse-in shampoo and a face wash with unknown contents that did not come out solidified.
There is no convenience store nearby, so you should bring what you need. Some dryers are gentle on the wind.
A 10-room Japanese-style inn located in the innermost part of Okuyugawara. A few minutes by car from the end of the bus (pick-up).
The building is quite old, but the rooms are clean.
It was good that the open-air bath faced the river and was surrounded by greenery, but it was a pity that the open-air bath in the room was small and the trees were old.
The appetizer sashimi tempura was delicious for the seasonal kaiseki meal.
