Uji Cha-gan-ju-tei House

We are traveling Japan since 1 Week and I was really pleased to have spontanously booked the Uji Cha-gan-ju-tei House to visit Uji. The house consist of multiple rooms either in traditional japanese style or in western style. While the clean rooms do not have an individual bathroom, there are more than enough common bathrooms available. Staying at this etablisment feels more like staying at a families house and makes the environment very relaxed. After one week of traveling through Japan, this was an experience I really missed dearly. Furthermore, this relaxed atmosphere extends to the whole city. Uji provides you with the possibilities of making your own Matcha tea or participate in a traditional tea ceremony, which sounds at first quite touristic, but is worth the little money you have to spend on it. Not only because of the experience, but because of the personal and friendly people in this town, which is also true for the employees of the Uji Cha-gan-ju-tei House. While other people commented that the breakfast is not good, we enjoyed the japanese breakfast, though you have to walk for roughly 8 min to another place We cannot comment on the western breakfast. The person working there during our stay spoke english on a good level, allowing conversations and recommandated locations for dinner, other activities and provided us with a pocked wifi - which is really helpful here. The free beer dispenser in the common kitchen is also a big plus. Coming here was the most pleasent experience we had so far in Japan, which we would recommend to anybody - given you like green tea or you want to know how good green tea can actually get - we were quite surprised. If you are not into green tea, you either will be convinced otherwise in this town or may rethink your choice of destination ;) Thank you!

The hostel is relatively close to Uji station and shines through its many perks and excellent service. A friendly atmosphere in the common area invites you to talk to other guests or to hang out and drink a coffee. The breakfast is included and you have the option between a Japanese or Western style breakfast in a cafe nearby. The hostel is clean and includes a daily cleaning service. These 5 stars are highly earned, can only recommend, will come again

Has all the essentials. The owner is so friendly and nice. Doesn't speak much English but so helpful and lovely. I really enjoyed my stay. Free beer absolute plus. I've never stayed in such a nice hostel before. Would definitely recommend solo travellers looking for a cheap comfortable stay in Uji. :)

An amazing experience! Very friendly and he provides free beer, drinks, and gives you a map of the local area for you to find food near!
