Good experience. Lovely paintings and artifacts. Overall a very nice experience for 500 yen

Encompassing a huge collection of art ranging from the Meiji era (1868-1912) to the modern day, the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT) showcases works by both Japanese and international artists, demonstrating the cultural impact the West has had on Japanese art, starting at the turn of the 20th century. With over 13,000 items, the works at MOMAT reflect a turbulent Japan that was rapidly modernizing and changing as they were created, giving you an extensive visual insight into the time period.

Great museum to go to understand the importance that Japanese artists have had in shaping the works that we often see in the western world bit would not likely attribute it. Museum is very well laid out and respectfully peaceful, allowing you to fully appreciate the works on display. Staff are helpful and courteous. Well worth a visit.

This art museum was a pleasant spot to spend a couple hours and see a variety of modern art. The exhibit was interesting (added 1200 yen to usual entrance fee of 500 yen). It had nice views of the imperial gardens across the street. I appreciated the art descriptions in English.
