Recently visited Hostel Stand By Me and had a blast. I actually went back 2 evenings in a row cause I had so much fun. The staff was very welcoming and has one individual on staff who can speak fluent english as he is from the states. They are running a hostel above the bar and had there been vacancy, I would have stayed there. The whole concept is pretty cool with a bar on the first floor where you trade cash for chips that are worth 250 Yen. The food and drinks were fantastic and incredibly cheap (250 Yen or 1 chip for a drink). The food I had was delicious too; its meant to be small plates. Not being a local to Japan, I finally saw some Japanese people come out of there shell and interact with an outsider. They wanted to meet me and talk which made the whole experience even more fun and worth it. Overall, I wish I had stayed and would highly recommend foreigns going to check out Hostel Stand By Me

Fantastic hostel. Comfy beds, even for tall folks. Friendly staff. Great location a few blocks from the metro. Great drinks and food at the izakaya downstairs.

Food and drinks are cheap and taste is ok, but very bad service. Staff is cocky, thinking they are the best in town, but their work attitude is very poor. We went the first time last week. As soon as we arrived a completely drunken customer came to our table and the staff did not do anything except watching at the situation and laughing. The guy was very annoying, talking loud, his beer glass almost felt a few times etc. Some of the dishes we ordered were not brought by the staff, but by another customer who was drinking at the bar counter. Too lazy to walk? Change your Job guys! If you are looking for a standing bar, there are many better than this one in Fukuoka.

Do it. Must place to go in Fukuoka for a drink, great ( cheap ) food and really good energy. If the great food and the cheap drinks are not enough to bring you in then the staff will be. All really cool, soulful people that make you feel like bam, I found a place to chill and cross paths with some true local Fukuoka people. Big bottle of beer for ¥ 500 and my favorite the wakanami Japanese sake poured at your table old school in a wooden box. ¥250. Food. It is all good and will hit the spot. I recommend the tori sasami cheese. Chicken cheese. Fried heaven. Hostel rooms upstairs. Clean, modern and reasonable. What makes this place though is the staff (John from the States/Momo and Taiki from Fukuoka.) Do it. You will make a night of it. Memories.

It is a really nice place to have a lunch and a drink. I spent a very nice moment at this place and the staff is really kind. Do not hesitate to go there. Good saké, good food, good fun !!
