Want to step through a time portal in the heart of downtown Manila? Visit this book and school/office supplies store. It is almost as if all the staff inside are unaware of the current year ba cause they are all living in the early 60s. The staff for one are matrons, a hiring practice now alien to Manila, perhaps with the exception of Philippine Airlines, whose coterie of accomplished Steel Magnolias is a wonder to behold. Now get this, those older staff ladies have these decidedly young understudies! It’s straight out of a convent, this kind of arrangement. But as to the “retro-ness” of the bookstore itself, it’s hard to miss. The display shelves, the goods, the layout, even the second floor book area. You had to have lived in the 60s to see how time had stopped within the doors of this store.
