I am traveling on my R1250 GSA from the US and I was looking for somewhere good to perform my 10,000 service along my route and could fit me into their schedule. Fernando was incredibly accommodating and basically told me to bring my bike in and he would make it work. Both Fernando and Joca the technician were perfect. They went through everything with me and we very cautious not to do anything that didn’t need to be done. The cost was fair and they even gave me a discount on parts and labor. Both Fernando and Joca were very knowledgeable and I will most certainly return if I am back in Porto and need service. Thank you Fernando, Joca, and BMCars. Five stars!

I was on a motorcycle trip to Portugal with friends in late June 2019 for ten days. There was something wrong with the feel through the handlebars of my 2016 BMW S1000R Sport, at 16,500 miles. A couple of times I had not had instant front brake pressure and I suspected that the disks were spinning off balance, sufficient to throw the pistons back into the callipers. I looked at the wheel, which appeared to rotate correctly, with friends and we could detect no obvious cause. I suspected that the wheel may not have been balanced and with hindsight, I should have had it checked, but when you are ‘running with the pack,’ working to a schedule, it is easy to dismiss a problem and hope for the best. On Saturday 28th June, a thousand miles later, having spent another aggressive day on the fabulous roads of Portugal, I rode into Vila Real, 100km east of Porto, requiring two full pulls on the lever to get any brakes. There was a graunching and knocking from the front wheel and I could see that the nearside ball bearings had been freed; they bounced around, captive and looking like a spinning lottery ball basket. I had to pull over, before I could get to my hotel and friends helped me. The bike was recovered and after another long story, it and I ended up at BMcar on the evening of Monday 30th. I was still hopeful that I could have new bearings fitted and be on my way to the Bilbao ferry with the others. I was introduced to Fernando José Costa Sousa, who spoke good English and who, from the moment that I met him, promised to do everything that he could to help me. He had been a mechanic for twelve years and was now a representative and he was also a motorcyclist. He told me that bearings would take two days to arrive from Spain or five to ten from Germany. It was then, that I realised that there was no hope of catching the Tuesday morning ferry. I stayed overnight, within walking distance of BMcar. Fernando had taken my mobile telephone number and had promised to update me next day with the findings of the mechanics. When he rang, he informed me that too much damage had been done and a new rim was needed. Even if I had paid the €1050 for one, it was not in stock. I stayed in my hotel room and Fernando rang me, later, with options. He had rung around his friends and had spoken with one who had the same wheels and who had agreed to sell me the one I needed. Later, Fernando drove to pick up the wheel from his friend and had the mechanics transfer my parts to his wheel. The nearside spacer, which had been burred at the edges, was machined and the motorcycle was restored. My bike was washed and I was charged very little for BMcar service. I was on my way home on Wednesday morning. At fifty-seven years old, my hopes for humanity are waning, but when one meets a person such as Fernando, the contrast with what one might have expected from a stranger was staggering. I had to choke back my tears as I thanked him for rescuing me. I would not hesitate to return to BMcar Porto and I thank the company for employing a man such as Fernando Sousa - “o bom samaritano.”
