The Tale of the Urals - a sculptural composition on Privokzalnaya Square in the city of Chelyabinsk. Author and sculptor: Vitaly Semenovich Zaikov Architect: Evgeny Alexandrov. The idea of creating the monument “The Tale of the Urals” arose thanks to the tales of P. P. Bazhov. They are talking about a giant wearing a huge belt with deep pockets in which he hid all his treasures. The word "Ural" is translated from Bashkir as a belt. In 1967, the work was carried out hastily, rushly, with deviations from the plan, which could not help but upset the authors. Instead of polished granite, the monument pool was hastily concreted, stone blocks were brought from the suburban quarry. Carved from granite "The Tale of the Urals" - the embodiment of physical strength and creative power of the Ural masters. On the pedestal, covered with stone boulders, stands a knight cut from granite. In his hands is a hammer, which speaks of the workers' merits of the Southern Urals and its inhabitants. On the facade of the pedestal there is an inscription: “Ural is the supporting edge of the state, its earner and blacksmith”. The total height of the monument is 12 meters.

The mighty “Tale of the Urals” is the visiting card of Chelyabinsk, it is he who meets the city guests arriving by rail. History reference Station Square needed its own unique face, a business card. The monument, meeting and seeing off the guests of Chelyabinsk, it was decided to make a truly Ural. The mighty giant refers us to the legends of the Urals, the tales of P.P. Bazhov. There is an ancient legend about a giant who wore a belt with deep pockets. He hid in them all his wealth. The belt was huge. Once the giant stretched it, and the belt lay across the earth, from the cold Kara Sea in the north to the sandy shores of the southern Caspian Sea. So the Ural Range was formed. As we know, the very word "Ural" in the translation from Bashkir means "belt". In addition, the hero is the embodiment of the physical strength and creative power of the Ural masters. He has a hammer in his right hand, which speaks of the working merits of the South Urals. On the facade of the pedestal there is an inscription: "The Urals are the supporting edge of the state, its earner and the blacksmith." In addition, on the pedestal is the name of the monument - "The Tale of the Urals." The author of the monument was Vitaly Semenovich Zaikov, a sculptor, a participant in the Great Patriotic War. In 1954–65, 1973–83, he lived and worked in Chelyabinsk. The architect is Evgeny Viktorovich Aleksandrov, a Chelyabinsk citizen, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, who created projects of many iconic buildings of the city and participated in the creation of monuments. The construction of the monument was carried out in a hurry, with deviations from the plan, which could not but upset the authors. Instead of polished granite, the pool at the monument was soon concreted, stone blocks were brought from the suburban quarry. The monument was erected in 1967. The monument turned out to be truly monumental: the total height of the composition is 12 meters. For almost 50 years, the monument rises above the station square of the city. Rumor has it that once homeless were hiding in its cavities.
