The Chelyabinsk elevator is an abandoned grain elevator of a state bank located in the Sovetsky district of the city of Chelyabinsk, at the intersection of Yelkin, Kirov and Khlebnaya streets. A cultural heritage site of regional significance. In 1910-1911, a program was developed to build a network of state bank elevators in the Russian Empire. The decision to build an elevator in Chelyabinsk was made in 1913, at a representative meeting with the participation of all interested parties. Engineer K. Ye. Zhukov was appointed the project coordinator. Construction began in 1914, and in 1916 the central section of the elevator was completed, which for a time became the highest point in the city. The elevator was put into operation already under the new government, in 1918 engineer Zhukov arrived from Samara to Chelyabinsk for the final installation of the equipment. Due to the fact that the Soviet power was overthrown in the city at that time, Zhukov independently organized the work on putting the equipment into operation. In 1924, the building became the property of the State Bank. Soon, a market was broken up near the elevator, popularly called the elevator. Despite the fact that the building was originally built on the outskirts of the city, the market is becoming one of the central in the city. The elevator worked according to its direct purpose until the mid-90s of the XX century. Currently, the building is abandoned, only the central part remains of the elevator premises, the side sections are completely destroyed (except for the basements). The storage facilities around the elevator building were taken over by private organizations. In 2014, a historical and cultural examination of the identified cultural heritage object was carried out by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, according to the results of which it was recommended to include the elevator building in the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage Objects of the Peoples of the Russian Federation. The building of the elevator has been knocked out to this day: the Chelyabinsk elevator of the state bank.
