The house was erected in 1892 by order of the Chelyabinsk merchant I.A. Ivanov, and at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, he became the property of A.I. Mikhailova, who was, apparently, his daughter. In 1908, the building was bought by the merchant N.F. Baburin. According to the surviving evidence, at the beginning of the twentieth century the house had two floors, of which the first was occupied by shops, and the second was reserved for living. It housed a tailor's workshop with a clothing store, a watch shop, and also furnished rooms. In the stylistic sense, the house of the merchant Ivanov fully corresponded to the spirit of the time and did not differ much from other merchant estates. In the twentieth century, various organizations and institutions were located in this building, starting from the City Department of Vocational Education and ending with sports societies. In its original form, it existed until the end of 1990 - the beginning of the 2000s, when a new building appeared on the site of an old building on a high foundation with a reproduced appearance of the facade.
