Located on Dzerzhinsky Square opposite the central entrance of the Volgograd Tractor Plant in the Traktorozavodsky district of Volgograd. The famous "T-34" stands in the center of the square on a high pedestal lined with black slabs. The inscription on the pedestal: "The T-34 tank was installed in memory of the heroic labor and combat exploits of the workers of the Volgograd Tractor Plant during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945." On the right is a memorial sign in the form of a granite block with the inscription: "In memory of the heroic warriors who fell during the defense of Stalingrad against the German invaders, 1942-1943. People's Commissariat of the USSR Tank Industry. Established in 1944." It was these formidable fighting vehicles that hundreds of people left the assembly line of the Stalingrad Tractor Plant during the years of the Great Patriotic War. From the first days of the war, the tractor factory rebuilt to the needs of the front and in a short time transferred production to military rails, having adjusted the production and repair of T-34 tanks. Of the workers and employees of the tractor plant were formed part of the national militia - a tank brigade under the command of engineer-technologist N.L. Vychugova, fighter battalions. After the declaration of martial law, the crews of the tanks released were replenished with factory workers, who left immediately for battle. Production was finally stopped only on September 13, 1942, when fierce battles were already taking place directly at the plant. After the liberation of the area from occupation in February 1943, restoration work began at the plant, and after the war, the plant resumed production of tractors. One of the combat vehicles after the liberation of the plant was placed in the center of the square. In 1949, the tank was moved to a pedestal. In 1978, it was reconstructed, and the monument took its present form. In modern Volgograd, there are many monuments to tanks. T-34 tanks can be seen on Zemlyachka Street, Heroes of Stalingrad Avenue. On the street Marshal Vasilevsky is a monument to the tank T-70. Near the museum-panorama "Battle of Stalingrad" there is a whole exhibition complex under the open sky, where military equipment is displayed, including tanks of various models. Towers of T-34 tanks were installed in different districts of Volgograd, denoting a symbolic line of defense of the city during the Stalingrad battle.
