Archaeological site in the Novgorod region. Located 8 km from Demyansk. It is a natural ravine, the side embankments of which were completed by the ancient Novgorodians in the 10th century. The mountain itself is a hill located in a semicircle by the river and blocking the entrance to the ravine. The height of the hill is 60 meters with very steep slopes. At the top is the plane where the prison once stood. The fortress was called Demon and defended the approaches to Novgorod, at a time when the river was navigable. Perhaps the name of the town nearby is Demyansk and this is connected. From the top of the mountain, a picturesque view of the surroundings opens. By the way, you can drive up the mountain by jeep. A spiral path with a steep climb for extreme sports.
