Born June 16, 1913 in the Urals in the family of a postal worker. Parents sent him to school with a pedagogical bias. After finishing the nine-year period, Herman left for the Ural city of Beloretsk in 1930. Here he managed to get a job as an apprentice at a steel wire factory. At the same time, he entered the second year of the evening department of the workers' faculty at the Sverdlovsk Institute of Steel. In 1937, after graduating from the Ural Industrial Institute named after I. CM. Kirov Korobov was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army for military service in one of the aviation units of the Trans-Baikal Military District, stationed near Chita. Here cadet Korobov was preparing to become an observer pilot of the SB high-speed bomber. In 1939, he was sent to work at the Tula Central Design Bureau-14 as a design engineer in one of the leading design bureaus, engaged in the creation of automatic small arms, where he worked until the end of his life.
