The founder of the Bronze Age of Russian literature, Nikolai Zabolotsky, opened a monument in Tarusa. This is the first monument to the great poet, who opened the beginning of one of the three most productive and magnificent periods of Russian literature. The idea belongs to the family of the writer Alexander Schipkov. A bronze bust of the sculptor Nikolai Kazachka’s work on a two-meter base was installed at the intersection of Karl Liebknecht and Lunacharsky Streets at the Mir Concert Hall, not far from the house where the poet lived for two summers 1957 and 1958. These were the last years of Zabolotsky’s life, he died in the fall of 1958. The monument was opened by its initiator himself, the honorary citizen of Tarusa, writer Alexander Shchipkov, acting governor Anatoly Artamonov and the head of the administration of the Tarusa region, Yevgeny Maltsev, editor-in-chief of Literary Newspaper writer Yuri Polyakov. The author of the monument, Nikolai Kazachok, was also present. The poet wrote over 30 poems in a short Tarusian period. One of them, “Gorodok”, full of light irony, formed the basis of the popular hit about the girl Marusa. In Tarusa, Zabolotsky met with the writer Konstantin Georgievich Paustovsky, who on 24 August 1957 presented him with his recently published book “A Tale of Life” with the inscription: “To dear Nikolai Alekseevich Zabolotsky, as a sign of deep admiration for the classical strength, wisdom and transparency of his poems. You are just a sorcerer! ” And in a letter to Kaverin on September 1, 1957, he wrote: “Zabolotsky lived here in the summer. Wonderful, amazing person. The other day I came, read my new poems, very bitter, completely Pushkin's in splendor, poetic tension and depth. ” During the summer and autumn of 1957, Zabolotsky managed to fall in love with this small town with a way of life familiar to him from Sernur and Urzhum, grassy streets, surrounding birch groves, herds of cows on meadows, and a high bank of the Oka River. In the words of his poem “It was a long time ago”, here he seemed to live again “with the charm of years lived”. Inspired by what he saw, the poet wrote 33 new poems - this was the peak of his creative activity. Some of them were read to him during a trip with a group of poets in October of that year to Italy.
