Founded by Ivan the Terrible in 1552 after the capture of Kazan. At the moment, it is considered the oldest male monastery in the Volga region. The territory is not very large, but very beautiful and well-groomed - chic rose gardens, Christmas trees. Unfortunately, only the church was open on our arrival. There is also a Pilgrimage House on the territory where you can register - living in it costs only 650 rubles with two meals a day. There is a small free car park at the entrance.

There are no words that can fully describe this place. You need to come here and feel what is happening inside. Peace, tranquility, silence, beauty. All problems remain there, outside the gates of the monastery. Another reality. After visiting the temple, it is as if there is a reboot, renewal, cleansing. Bad mood removes like a hand, well-being improves from positive emotions. I live not far from the monastery. I often come and bring friends, everyone is very happy.

Living in Kazan for the first time I learned about its existence. The monastery is very old and occupies a lot of place in the history of Kazan. The Holy Dormition Monastery on Zilantova Gora (Zilantova Gora in Russian means "serpentine") is the oldest surviving male monastery in the Volga region, founded by Ivan IV the Terrible on the day and year of the capture of Kazan on October 15, 1552 for the eternal remembrance of the fallen soldiers. The history of the monastery is rich in events of national importance, associated with the name of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, the rulers and many noble families of the city of Kazan. It is located in the Kirovsky district of Kazan, far from the city noise, its golden domes are visible from everywhere. It existed until 1918. During the years of Soviet power, the monastery housed: a children's colony, warehouses of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and communal apartments. Since 1998, it began to revive as a convent. The monastery has always been small in terms of the number of monks, and it is also not numerous at the present time. The area is quiet, but there are beggars at the entrance. You can climb up to it both by car and on foot. We left the car at the bottom and walked a little up.

An amazing place in the center of Kazan, practically unknown to either tourists or most residents, despite the fact that you can see the monastery from almost any observation deck. The mountain on which the serpent Zilant lived, the place of the headquarters of Ivan the Terrible, one of the oldest monasteries in Kazan. Having preserved an amazing church with an iconostasis, so many relics of saints and icons with reliquaries, I have not seen for a long time in more famous churches. And a huge plus - there are no crowds of people here. Quiet and very cozy. This place should not be missed when visiting Kazan!

A good place. Pines and roses all around, the smell is stunned. Not great. Worth visiting
