Dom Kachalova

In this house in 1897-99. lived USSR People's Artist V.I. Kachalov. The house was built in the first half of the 19th century by Archpriest of Jordan, who served in the Resurrection Cathedral, located at the other end of the alley (now the building of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Kazan State University is located on this site). In 1869, Jordan was transferred to a service in another parish and the house was sold to the merchant Gerasim Mikhailov, in which a two-story stone outbuilding, a glass gallery for growing vegetables were built in the courtyard of the house. In the outbuilding and in the house itself, they arranged furnished rooms for guests. There was a drinking shop at the house, and in 1874-75. a tavern was opened, located on the basement floor overlooking Chernoozerskaya street. Stepan Gerasimovich Mikhailov, a merchant of the second guild, already had a restaurant in 1897. In terms of the quality of services, Mikhailov’s rooms were second-rate and not so expensive, located near the university and the theater, had their own restaurant - this was convenient for artists and students. Currently (September 2019), the house is in disrepair, although in August 2012 this and 6 other old buildings were transferred to the investment company ASG for subsequent restoration.
