On our journey from Rostov to Kazan on the motor ship "Alexander Nevsky" we passed 15 locks. And every time we approached the next sluice, we rushed to the deck to watch this fantastic action: as our ship enters the sluice chamber, the doors open (or descend) and we go out onto the river at a completely different height! The work of these powerful hydraulic structures is admirable: after all, some of them were built more than half a century ago.
