Annenskie fortifications, fortifications of the second quarter of the 18th century, designed to serve as an additional defensive structure to the Vyborg castle-fortress against Swedish military encroachments. Named after the Russian Empress Anna Ioanovna. The structure itself resembles an additional stone wall to a fortress-castle, built of huge round stone boulders common in this area. Judging by the location, namely around the fortress-castle, there was a water barrier between the castle and this wall (now there is no water there), in addition, stone bunkers were installed, like observation towers. Vyborg is a piece of Europe in Russia. I definitely recommend it, a very beautiful city. Although small, all can be bypassed in a day.
