It is considered the oldest civil building in Vyborg, presumably it dates back to the 14th century. The house was part of a medieval merchant's estate, which included housing and outbuildings. Merchants (mainly Germans and Swedes) played an important role in medieval Vyborg: already in the diploma of the King of Sweden in 1323, it was stipulated that Vyborg had trade rights equal to Revel. In 1403, Vyborg received the status of a city and "city privileges", including trade ones, thanks to which the city quickly turned into a major trade center. In the 16th century, the house was acquired by the merchant guild of the Holy Spirit, and began to be used for conducting trade negotiations and making deals. Later, the owners and the purpose of the building changed. There was a school here. There is a version that there was a lazet for the poor and an overnight stay for the homeless. On the border of the 19th and 20th centuries, the house from the side of the streets was closed by the surrounding later buildings, which were destroyed during the Soviet-Finnish wars. The debris removal work finally buried the first floor. With the emergence of archeology in the USSR at the border of the 50-60s, research was carried out on the adjacent still unbuilt territory. The oldest artifacts date back to 1420. During the Soviet period, the building was empty for a long time. At the end of the 70th reconstruction was carried out. After that there was a dog breeders club. Since 2018, the house has been at the disposal of the Vyborg Museum and is now free to visit.

How nice it is, and really impressive that there are still such buildings that were built before Peter !!!! Such a pretty little house where the merchant lived with his family! What is surprising is that the house is located diagonally to all subsequent buildings! It has been restored, and they want to make an ethno-museum! As a matter of fact, the house is not one-story, but two-story !! But, the "cultural layer" drowned the whole floor! Beautiful stonework, and the whole look of the restored house is inspiring!

It is believed that the house was built in the XIV century. It was part of a medieval merchant estate. Now it houses a tourist information center ...

Construction of the 15th century, even before the redevelopment of Vyborg. Therefore, the house of the Merchant Guild stands at an angle with respect to the rest of the city’s buildings. It was restored three years ago. Now inside is the tourist information center in the Leningrad region. You can take a free map with the designation of historical and iconic places. Over time, souvenirs should appear. Outside, we see only one floor of this building, the second floor went underground due to an increase in the level of the cultural layer and now it is a basement that is not yet equipped for visiting. Google for some reason placed all uploaded photos in Vyborg under the house of the merchant guild😱, and placed the photo of the house at the end.

Well done for rebuilding. Another would be to bring the surrounding landscape in order.
