Admiralty gate

Designed by Vincenzo Brenna in the mid-1790s, the gate served as the main entrance to the Palace Park from the side of the city. The name Admiralteyskie sounds in the far from the sea estate somewhat unexpectedly. Pavel Petrovich had not only an exemplary army here, but also an armed fleet of 24 ships. They, of course, were inferior to naval warships in size, but they perfectly performed maneuvers and made the expanses of the lake even more picturesque. Under Paul, the panorama of the lake was often decorated, in addition to masts and sails, by the smoke of gunfire.
