Reviews
Julia Boechat (06/02/2018)
Anna Akhmatova wasn't arrested by Stalin, but her son was in order to keep her in line. She spent seventeen months going to Kresty prison, one of the largest ones in Europe, trying to get information about his fate. She wrote her Requiem about it, and in one of her poems she dreams that her statue will be built in front of it, as a memorial to the horror of the Stalinist regime. Finally it was, and it overlooks Kresty prison from the other side of the river, lines of her Requiem written on it. Really beautiful memorial, and the memorial to victims of political persecution is just on the other side of the road.

"- Can you describe THIS? And I said: - I can." A.A.'s behavior is respectful. She did not run away under "alien wings", she was with "my people." I could. Well, the descendants did not disgrace the fatherland - they erected the monument exactly where the poet wanted.

The monument is modest, but necessary, as a tribute to the work of such a significant poetess
