Monument on a high earthen rampart of the Royal Bastion. A high four-sided obelisk with a bronze figure of an eagle spreading its wings is set on a hexagonal pedestal, the lower part of which is made up of six low semi-columns. The rampart of the bastion served as a magnificent promenade, from which a wonderful view of the Dnieper region opened up.

The monument to the Sofia regiment on the Royal Bastion was created and opened in 1912, on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812, and is dedicated to the memory of the participation of the Sofia Infantry Regiment in the Battle of Smolensk. The author of the monument project was an ordinary regiment artist and sculptor Boris Nikolayevich Tsapenko.
