The monument was erected in 2000. The inscription on the pedestal reads: "God is not in power, but in truth." A monument was created to Alexander Nevsky in Kursk by the Russian sculptor Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Klykov. In 1247, after the death of Father Alexander Nevsky, in the distant Karakoram, the new Mongol ruler Ogul-Gamish, contrary to the expectations of many, handed the label of Grand Duke Vladimir, and with it the right to dominate in then-Russia, not Alexander, but his younger brother Andrei. It must be said that Nevsky had reason to count on the tidbit: by that time the formidable Batu himself distinguished him from other Russian princes and even considered him his named son. What is such an honor? Well, probably not for proud boomers and not for past victories: those from the Russian nobility were welcomed in the Horde, whose rational will and energy were combined with unconditional humility and diligence. But Batu had many enemies in the main Mongolian headquarters - Karakorum, and this served his darling poorly. Alexander Yaroslavich was given control of an unenviable “ulus” - devastated Kiev, and with it the devastated South Russia, including Kursk. But upon returning to his homeland, he did not go to his new possessions, citing illness, but returned to Novgorod - did not want to be content with little ... Prince Alexander had to wait a few years. In 1252, in the Karakorum, Ogul-Gamish was overthrown by the new great khan Munke (Menge). This allowed Batu to remove Andrei Yaroslavich from the great reign and hand the label to his favorite, Alexander. But the brothers Alexander Nevsky Andrei and Yaroslav, supported by Prince Daniil Romanovich Galitsky, refused to obey the decision of Batu. The civil strife so familiar to Russians in former times began. To punish the rebellious princes, Batu sends a Mongol detachment under the command of Nevryuy ("Nevryuyev army"), to which considerable forces of Nevsky join. As a result, a lot of Russian blood was shed, princes Andrei and Yaroslav fled to Sweden, and Alexander firmly established himself on the princely throne.

The monument is beautiful, but the pedestal is not very. And why in Kursk a monument to Nevsky, who had never been here?
