An interesting monument in the center of St. Petersburg dedicated to those who suffered from political repression, i.e. those who ended up in the gulag. Many consulates and people put flowers at this monument recently. Wow. This is a sobering site.

If you have read Solzhenyihtzin, or other now about the Gulag, this simple uncut stone commemorating the labor camps will move you. Best seen in the rest to the Political History Museum nearby

The Solovetsky Stone is a monument located in Lubyanka Square in Moscow, across from KGB headquarters. The monument consists of a large stone brought from the Solovetsky Islands, the location of Solovki prison camp, part of the Soviet Gulag system. The monument was erected in 1990 to honor victims of political suppression in the Soviet Union.
