On the site of Sampsonievsky Garden (in Soviet times, it bore the name of Karl Marx) used to be the first city cemetery in the city. Since the cemetery was located at the Sampson Wanderers Temple, many famous foreigners were buried here, mainly architects who worked and worked for the glory of the city. Among them are Trezzini, Rastrelli, Schlüter, Leblon, Mattarnovi. In 1995 a monument to sculptor Mikhail Shemyakin and architect Vyacheslav Bukhayev was erected in the garden, dedicated to architects and sculptors buried here. On the granite arch with a bronze cross, symbolizing the "window to Europe", bronze portraits of the city’s creators were placed, on a low pedestal was a bronze table with parcels of drawings, a candlestick, compasses and other objects of their labor, a bronze chair. In 2000 the vandals stole everything except the granite arch and pedestal.

Monument to foreign sculptors, architects who began the construction of the city. Now only the arch is left of the monument, everything else has disappeared.

The place where these people are really buried. It is written on the monument: "Found rest". And the cathedral is beautiful

Once upon a time on the territory of the Sampsonievsky Garden there was a cemetery of the most famous architects and the most important people in the history of St. Petersburg. Now, in memory of this, only this monument remains
