Slava Svetlov (10/19/2020)
The partially ruined appearance of the colonnade fits very organically into the landscape of this part of the park. It turned out very picturesque, if you look from the right bank of the Slavyanka River, and from the left bank it looks like one of the park's pavilions. Nice and organic.

The Apollo Colonnade is one of the masterpieces of park architecture of the late 18th century. Built by C. Cameron in 1782 in the meadow of the upper plateau of the left bank of the river. Slavyanka. The colonnade is designed in the form of a double ring of Doric columns covered with architrave. The powerful forms of architecture and the gray color of the limestone from which the structure is made give it the character of true antiquity. The majestic, open temple colonnade, full of light and air, is dedicated to Apollo, a kind of patron saint of Pavlovsk. The original image of the Colonnade can be seen in the painting of a porcelain table in the Boudoir of Maria Feodorovna. While on a trip abroad, the owner of Pavlovsk wrote to the manager K.I. Kuchelbecker from Italy in 1782: "The Colonnade and the Temple in Pavlovsk are dearer to me than all the beauties of Italy." In 1800, at the request of the Empress, the Apollo Colonnade was moved to the bank of the Slavyanka River opposite the palace. According to D. Quarenghi's project, a cascade was arranged from the Colonnade to the Slavyanka, which descended along the stone ledges to the river and, before flowing into it, froth violently under a humpbacked stone bridge. According to the ancient myth, the Colonnade was supposed to personify Mount Parnassus, where Apollo and the muses lived, and the cascade, the Kastalsky Key, was a source of inspiration. Such images of the Colonnade can be seen in the painting by A. Martynov (Raspberry Cabinet), as well as in the watercolors and engravings of the early 19th century by S. Shchedrin, D. Quarenghi, I. Chesky, I. Ukhtomsky. However, in 1817, during a severe thunderstorm, the base of the Colonnade above the cascade was washed away, and several columns and part of the entablature collapsed. It was decided not to touch the collapsed details of the Colonnade, since nature itself, as it were, created the appearance of a picturesque ruin, which gave this landscape a romantic character.

Apollo is surrounded by a semi-colonade, which gives elevation and protection to the sculpture. The copy of Apollo is perfect, you can only admire the hero with such a figure.
