The origin of a small artificial Parnassus hill is due to the fact that in 1749-1755 there was an expansion and a deepening of the ponds and the Cross channel of the Alexander Park. In Greek mythology, Parnassus was called the high mountain where Apollo and the muses, the patrons of the arts, lived. As planned, a spiral road should lead to the top, and a gazebo in the spirit of ancient Greek architecture should decorate the top. But it was never implemented. Now the hill is almost completely overgrown with trees. In the summer, it is not visible.
