The Alexander Fortress was founded in 1778 by order of Field Marshal Suvorov in order to protect the Zuqan highlanders from the tribes during the creation of the fortification system of the Kuban border line and was one of the main points of the entire Right wing of the Caucasian line, it was repeatedly attacked. The fortress was destroyed during the Soviet times, and its territory was built up with private houses. The last reminder of the fortress - the Caucasian Gate - was destroyed in the sixties. Until our time, only the earthen wall has been partially preserved. On the initiative of the Ust-Labinsk artist V. M. Boritko in 1978, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the foundation of the fortress and the city of A. V. Suvorov, this monument was erected on the site of the third bastion of the Alexander Fortress.
