Spaso-Preobrazhenskiy Sobor

It's a must. Number one site in Russia imho. By some incredible luck a spot of pre-mongol site is preserved.

Worth a stop on the journey along the M8 highway. + Remarkably renovated monument + interesting location behind a medieval rampart (12 meters high) + village small town environment + real good small restaurant with summer veranda nearby - Church mostly closed - no view from the ramparts on the river and the lake - Visual axes are overgrown.

One of the oldest buildings in Russia. It was built in the XII century. It's open during summer time only and even then there is no queue and crowd inside. The décor is quite modest.
