You'd never expect to find one of Portland's oldest pioneer cemeteries, created in 1857, next to a freeway. The cemetery is currently being restored. What's special about the Historic Columbian Cemetery (also known as the Columbian Cemetery or Love Cemetery) are people from diverse class levels and ethnic groups from the North Portland Community, including well-known figures. Best to go on Memorial Day when volunteers are available to help you locate graves and flat headstones that are grown over with grass. A database was recently created from old cemetery records.
Beautiful place to visit but would not like to live their. It was dead quiet.
Love this cemetery. Lots of North Portland notables buried here. Oddly peaceful for the location.
