If you are heading south on Cerrillos from outside Santa Fe, be sure to get some much needed rest. Just past Cordova on the right is a driveway. Turn in and park and read some history from the late 1880's. Visit some grave sites and wonder at the care taken to move many of these burials from another part of town. Since that time there was some neglect but lately the County and the Preservation Society have done an excellent job in cleaning up the landscaping. Also, if you can, drive around, or walk around, to the West side of this cemetery and view some older burials that are covered in weeds. All in all a good place to visit, though not much rest can be obtained here since it is right on the very busy Cerrillos Road.

I was shocked to see how poorly cared for this cemetery is. There are weeds everywhere. I went to visit the graves of several relatives and could hardly believe how neglected the place is. Their website appears to be non-functional. I would like to know who is responsible for its upkeep.

Fairview Cemetery is operated and maintained by the Fairview Cemetery Preservation Association, a group of volunteers who do a great job and a tremendous amount of work keeping the Cemetery going ! Thanks to all the FCPA volunteers for "carrying the ball", volunteering their time, and preserving the history of Santa Fe and its residents by maintaining Fairview.

I was very surprised and sadden by the lack of care this cemetery has received. Especially since many graves are rather new. A place so rich in history deserves much better treatment.

Did you know? Not only is this cemetery one of the oldest in Santa Fe, but is "home" to many Santa Fe historical notables. Additionally, this place is a "hotspot" for ghost-hunters and paranormal investigators and is sometimes referred to as a "gate to hell". Oddly enough, the address (1134) if turned upside-down and backwards looks eerily like it spells "hell". Try it yourself if you don't believe me...
