Kevin installed geared (planetary) pegs in my cello, which it needed badly due to dry conditions in Taos making my instrument really difficult to keep in tune. He expertly installed them, and noticed while the cello was on the bench, that my fretboard needed some attention, which he also took care of. Couldn't be more satisfied.

The Violin Shop of Santa Fe is a great place to purchase or rent violins, violas, cellos, upright basses, and bows for each. I rented an upright bass, bow, rosin, and bag for 6 months before deciding to purchase the bass I was renting. The amount I had paid for the rental was taken off the "sticker price" of the bass which really helped reduce the purchase price. This is the only place I found (in the Southwest!) that would rent a bass to an adult student. I live in Albuquerque, but I happily drive the 2 hour round trip to Santa Fe because I love the personal service, the good prices, and being able to talk with someone who knows your name and remembers what instrument you play. In Albuquerque we have Roberston and Sons Violins which has a very large selection of instruments and equipment, and very knowledgeable staff. However, every time I go in there I feel like they don't remember me and I sometimes get the feeling that they don't really care to help. At the Violin Shop of Santa Fe, Julia and Kevin usually help you personally and they really care about your needs. Also, in my experience, the instruments and bows at VSoSF were of higher quality than options at similar prices at Robertson's.

Julia was wonderful in helping me get my daughter all set up for a violin. Being a musician myself, I understand craftsmanship and quality but knew nothing about violins. Julia gave me a quick crash course with very thorough explanations and expectations. I left with all my questions answered and excited for my daughter to begin learning her new instrument! Thank you, Julia.

I was so lost when I walked in and so confident and joy filled when I finally left. I'm coming back on payday! I just found my new toy store!

A truly extraordinary shop specializing in string instruments. The owner is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.
