As previously posted, Laurel Grove Cemetery is a nice place to visit. The neighbors dogs are no longer roaming the area and the homeless camps have been removed from the ODOT property in the back. The Springfield Rotary comes up once a year just before Memorial Day weekend to help clean the grounds, which is very appreciated. All the mowing, maintenance and upkeep is performed by a dedicated group of volunteers who wants to see the cemetery look nice all year long.

I really like this area and the grounds are kept up nicely. Only one complaint and that is there are no visiting hours where the gates are open to drive through. I have been approached twice by unfriendly dogs so I don’t feel comfortable leaving my car to walk to the other end. Even if the gates were open only a few hours a day that would be a huge help ud83dude01ud83dudc4d

I love this little cemetery! While it doesn't have many amenities, what it does have is a group of dedicated Rotary Club volunteers who have upgraded and maintained the grounds. After the ice storms of 2016, they cleaned up hundreds of downed limbs and last year installed running water. They also added security cameras, a new sign, and a doggie bag dispenser. On Memorial Day, they open the main gate and visitors can drive in. They offer artifical flowers at the security building area to decorate graves and provide porta-potties for guests. There are pioneer citizens buried here, too, such as members of families named: Chase, Pengra, Judkins, Spencer, Churchill, and the founder of Springfield, Isaac Briggs and his wife. It's also a great place to walk my dog, with ground squirrels to chase and space to run free. I have seen few homeless people, as mentioned in a previous review, but with forest areas surrounding the grounds, people could camp. I enjoy the solitude and history of this cemetery...beauty is in the eye of the beholder. See new photos taken just after Memorial Day, 2018. Note there are American flags on every soldier's grave - from the Civil War to VietNam.
