Music Merchants

The store is a mess. Rarely is there music playing and it does smell. The owner can barely say hello and finding stuff is hard. However, found many gems over the years and love it. He doesn't charge too much for hard to find stuff that's OOP.

I’ve been stopping by this store a few times a year for well over a decade. I’m mainly interested in used CD’s (and the prices are very cheap) but vinyl lovers will have a field day with the rarities here. Like most independent record stores with a LOT of inventory coming and going it’s a bit messy but that’s kind of the fun of these places.nI’ve never had any problems with the owner at all. He’s always been friendly, offers to order stuff he doesn’t have in, gives discounts for the heck of it. He has an old school “Jersey” attitude that perhaps younger customers aren’t used to. Good store.

Great place to get new and vintage music

I went there a couple of times and reading about the owner's behavior proceeded with caution. Had no problems, until the last time I was in there. He was annoyed I came in, there were no customers. He was on the phone at one point saying to the person on the line how there was one person in the store and he would get rid of me. I took the hint and left and never went back. Most of the stuff isn't priced and didn't bother asking since he is very irritable.

Sorry to say this, but the individuals who claim the owner is terrible because of x, y, or z are very likely unappreciative of quirks in another’s personality. He’s interesting, knowledgeable, and helpful. Is the store disorganized? Sure. That only adds to the fun of the treasure hunt, especially if you’re looking for vinyl. Because the store is often overlooked, I was able to snag a limited edition vinyl that was sold out online except for on the secondary market, fetching 10x what I paid for the record. The owner knew it and smiled when he saw me grab it, and said “you got it!” This doesn’t happen at Target. So, the store is absolutely worth a look: or not, which leaves more of the hard-to-find treasures for those who do appreciate what’s unique about Music Merchant.
