Sweet To Eat Bakery And Cake Shop

The cake I ordered was for my daughters baby shower. I had a go-by photo I emailed to them and they assured me they could duplicate it and with the little animals around the cake as well. We agreed to take out the middle layer. It was quite pricey for the size and for the 2 flavors/2 fillings. I also added a 10% tip to the 120.00 cake price tag.nOnce back at the house, we unboxed the cake. I was extremely disappointed and embarrassed to showcase this cake. The photos pretty much show it all. I had custom blocks made to put around the cake just like in the go-by photo but the jagged edge white cardboard was only maybe an inch left so we couldn't use the blocks for the cake.nAs for the cake itself, the almond cake was dry with hardly any filling. The strawberry cake was good. The icing was dented in several places and crooked details all around. It was a very unprofessional job and I can't believe they would let this cake go out in public. We threw out 85% of the cake into the garbage.nI did email them my disappointment and sent all (8) photos of the cake and never received a response. I would never use this company again for anything. Wasn’t what I would expect a Paw Patrol birthday cake to look like. One of the guests described it as an “old lady cake where Paw Patrol was an afterthought”. It was well done, but not at all what I expected, from seeing the other fun, playful cakes they did. Also, it was supposed to be strawberry, but could barely taste it. It didn’t even look strawberry. I didn’t know if that’s just because I didn’t really want certain dyes, but I googled strawberry cake recipes and that doesn’t appear to be an issue. I had also ordered cupcakes and specifically said pink and purple, but they were white frosting with sprinkles. It’s just very disappointing when you try to support locally owned and spend $70, where I would have been happier just buying from Walmart. It would have looked more like a little kid cake. Thankfully, my daughter is still too young to care, but it doesn’t really make us excited about having spent $70 and not getting what we wanted. At least it tasted good.nnEdit to add: I stated that I wanted at least Skye and Everest and didn’t state any kind of budget. I was never asked about what I wanted for a design or if I wanted to leave it up to the decorator. As someone who is not familiar with ordering cakes like this, I had no idea I should provide a picture. I had googled Paw Patrol cakes and would have been happy with any of the designs that showed up. To me, a cake shop’s job is to find out what exactly the customer wants and not just assume.

Did a recent order for a custom birthday cake and after having 4 other bakeries turn down my order Sweet to Eat was the only bakery willing to take on the challenge and they exceeded my expectations. The owner was amazing to work with and really cared about giving great customer service even went to the extent of making a practice cake prior to the party to make sure everything worked the way it was supposed to. The design was spot on and the taste was amazing. Would highly recommend and will be back for my future baked needs.

I follow them on FB and love their cake/cookie decorating skills. I had to stop when I was in town. While I was there they had Star war sugar cookies. One of the girls told me she had another set with Baby Yoda. I bought that one. They were so good!! The ladies there were super nice. Definitely will stop back in when I'm in Ankeny.

We ordered a half sheet cake for my sons birthday party. We ordered the cake a few days ahead, and apparently the cake was made ahead of time and frozen. We picked the cake up around 11 the day of the party and when we cut the cake at 2 pm parts of it were still frozen. The parts of the cake that were thawed was very dry. The frosting was also very dry and pasty. The price was almost double what we’ve paid in the past for cake and was not worth cost given most people threw it away.
