When visiting please be mindful this is a place is rest for people's family members so be respectful.nTruly one of the most fascinating things about New England are the cemeteries. Since this part of the country was settled by Europeans first the graves are much older than what you would see in other parts of the country. Alderbrook has some of the oldest gravestones in New England. Upon entering you notice gravestones leaning against the front wall. These are the markers from the old village green cemetary, the first cemetary in Guilford where the town Green now resides. The bodies are still in the green only the headstones were moved. Every one chiseled in old English. Some are far too eroded to ever be able to read but a great many are still legible. For history buffs this is a must see. The cemetery is open from dawn to dusk and I don't know that I'd want to be there after dark anyway.
