You ever frequent a food location so often, over a period of time where you almost become a regular? That's Chaves for me. It's definitely been awhile with COVID19 and a new diet, but me and my bf decided to grab sandwiches for breakfast this morning. I didn't go inside but the food was great, as usual. We got bacon, egg, and cheese. I love the Portuguese roll but I do have to take out some of the bread. They have offer a nice variety of bakery items and pantry stables with a decent section for deli. Highly recommend and they have multiple locations throughout the city.

If you're going for bread, I think you'll find what you need but this location on Madison doesnt carry as many pastries as the other locations. All this display area, and all empty usually. You can get a good sandwich here also. And doesn't hurt your pockets too much. I honestly avoid going in the spring/ summer because it's so hot in there always. And standing in line, I tend to sweat just waiting to put in my order. Even today, in a crisp November day, it was hot in there. Put on the a/c for goodness sakes! They have a huge kitchen where they do all the baking, they must know that's going to affect the overall temperature of the place. The staff there is ok. I mean they doubt scream customer service, but they're not the worst either. But geesh, aim higher!

Wonderful bakery with friendly staff. I'm from Houston TX and always make it a point to stop in for some goodies.

It smelled dirty, the ice cream was freezer burned and the pastry display was not clean at all. They didnt have many pastries and I was told to go to State Street! They were closing so I will go during the heaviest time to see if the place is in better shape.
