Wow! I cannot praise the team at Applebaum highly enough. I am a fairly new cellist and was having some issues with my cello. I brought it into the shop after hearing some recommendations about Carl's skill as a luthier. As soon as I stepped in the door I was warmly greeted by Kelly, who informed me that Carl was not yet in for the day. He arrived moments later, though, and immediately greeted me and listened to me describe my cello's issues. He dove right into a very thorough inspection of my instrument. After a thoughtful examination and assessment, he sat down with me and told me everything he could do to fix the issues, and told me how much everything would cost. Because my instrument was not an expensive one to begin with, Carl suggested that, instead of putting more money into it, I consider their lease-to-buy option with one of the cellos they had in store. All their cellos are treated with the same attention and care, whether it be a $50,000 cello or a $2,000 cello, so I knew that if I decided to go that route, I'd be sent home with a good instrument. Neither Carl or Kelly scoffed at my budget constraints. Kelly let me try a few different instruments and bows, and patiently answered all my questions. I told her I needed a while to mull things over, so she graciously let me leave my own cello in the shop for a couple hours while I wandered around town and found some lunch. I did decide to rent a cello, and the process was simple and streamlined. Both Carl and Kelly went above and beyond to take good care of me, and did not treat me any differently than they would an expert cellist with lots of money to spend. I highly, highly recommend the team at Applebaum.

I bought my cello from Applebaum in 1999 and received expert advice that has given me a wonderful instrument and bow. The service is great. Please be patient when they are busy - it's a small business with only so many hands on deck! Happily gotten repairs and rehairs here. Highly recommend.
