Coco’s Chalky Paints

When I first walked into this store, I felt like I was teleported to a space and time somewhere in NYC. This store is absolutely spectacular! Coco is such a creative, beautiful and multi-talented woman. From her paint pour classes to the gorgeous pieces of furniture she turns from shabby to elegant; to the plant shop to the other shops within, what Coco has crafted will leave you stunned! This is located in the 5th street arcade downtown. She has about 20,000 sq feet of space and there is something for everyone.nnCoco plants- there is a small shop in the front that sells plants in cute pots and various other items.nnCoco's Chalky Paints- CoCo has a very interesting story which I would encourage you to have a tour of her space and get the story straight from her. At any rate she sells a product that she formulated with help from a person who stayed in her house (Air B&B). This product will turn regular paint into chalky paint at a fraction of the cost. This enables you to undertake large paint projects while using chalky paint without breaking the bank. In addition to selling the powder she also offers classes where she teaches a couple of techniques used when doing paint pouring. Her classes are great for girls night out, date night, family fun day whatever occasion you can come up with to gather together with friends and get creative. You can also bring drinks and snacks. I made four coasters and paid the extra 10$ to have them coated with an epoxy. I prefer the shiny finish.nnCoco also has vintage items for sell in her shop. She found most of the items on the side of the road or in some similar fashion. She then cleans them up, restores or potential using chalky paint to alter them. So things get donated other things she sells. I recommend just going into the shop and looking around at all the antiques.nnWithin her shop she also has spaces that other people utilize. There is a shop downstairs that is only open on Saturdays. The lady is selling random old school items. It reminds me of one of those shops on Lorain.nnThere is so much art on display and for purchase. You can literally create, consume and buy in one place.nnTip: Check out her website!

Such a beautiful (and sprawling!) store with some really cool offerings. Coco recently added a live plants store—the first in downtown—which is such a great addition to the neighborhood. I stopped in yesterday and bought this gorgeous little plant for just $12! I have a feeling it’s going to be the first of MANY.
