Sandy was initially nice enough, but in the end the floor tile job was rushed.nnI complained several times during the job but yet it kept happening. Numerous areas have excessive lippage. Adjacent tiles are not laid flat between each other and some are laid at an angle with either a left or right tilt or a fore or after tilt or both.nnLippage is the vertical displacement between two adjacent tiles. The tiles laid have excessive lippaged. Besides being an eyesore, I’m concerned the sharp corners that protrude well above the next tile will tear a foot or snagged furnishings, etc.nnI tried to post pictures but there is no way to do this on the review.nnWhen I complained about the problems - the tile layer tried to say the tiles where the problem. The tiles were bought from a very respected tile company in SA & rectified - produced so that every tile is the exact same size, and the edges are cut precisely.nnAfter taking numerous tiles and laying them next to each other on a flat surface and showing the contractor that the tiles were perfectly flat and the edges were perfectly cut, he’s changed his mind and said it was his fault and he would fix it.nnI also showed how flat the tile was to Sandy.nnI have another contractor on site who needs to finish up the shower tile job on the bottom outside of the shower, but he told me he can’t do this because the floor tiles are so uneven.nnSandy tried to blame the other contractor, bring up maybe he walked on the tiles before they set, but her contractor said that didn’t happen.nnAfter materials and labor, I have approximately $12,000 into the tile floor job.nnSandy did say she would work with me and although I have a bunch of extra tiles, there is no way I have enough extra tiles to replace so many badly laid tiles.nnSo right now I’m trying to figure if I just need to have GC remove entire areas, buy new tiles, and have the new tile re-laid.nnSandy just come over to discuss for a second time. First time she came over she stated she would correct the problem.nnShe is now not willing to correct all the tile and areas that I identified as issues because of the number of problems. She claims they are within spec because they were within 1/16 of an inch. They are not.nnShe claims that I agreed to 1/16 of an inch and although her worker stated this — I never agreed. The standard is 1/32 of an inch and any wrapped of the tiles, so 1/16 might be ok but not in this case. Her worker stated this after looking at my tile and thinking that there was a warpage so I’m guessing this is why he said some area could be 1/16 of an inch. And besides there are numerous areas that are greater than 1/16 of an inch anyways. And he never stated each tile would lean differently.nnSandy only offered to replace a few. I showed her with a level how each Adjacent tile are not level with each other one leans one way and then the other liens a different way. I Explain that her worker never use a level or a straight edge the entire time.nnWhen I again showed her how flat the tiles where by laying some tiles next together she did not like the way I laid them so she kicked the tile and chipped the end. As you might guess I thought this was not very professional.nnIn any case, I laid the tile out like she wanted and once again they were perfectly flat among five random tiles that I had grabbed.nnI know you’re wondering why I wrote such an extensive review.nnHonesty goes a long way with me—n—so when her worker tried to say it’s the tilen—-then she tried to say the other contractor walked on the tilen—-and then the floor was not flat,nnI decided I’ll just write this up the best I can.nnPS The other contractor on sight told her that my floor was over engineer and perfectly flat because he had checked it before using a level. The concrete columns, the 16 inch on center metal joist, and the 3/4 subfloor were all laid using a laser. There were some minor areas that needed to be sanded between the 4 x 8 subflooring which is a standard practice before you put down the hardy board.nnTake carenMark
