Absolutely worth riding atleast once!! We paid extra to ride with the conductor on the way back down and it was worth every penny. So much fun!! Pat was very knowledgeable and let the kids help blow the whistle. We loved getting that experience and my kids couldn't stop talking about it. If you can swing the extra, I highly suggest doing it!

A most enjoyable experience, so happy we decided to do this! There were four of us, all adults, and we loved this ride. It was $45 pp and they do have a 20% military discount. If you buy tickets on-line you can receive a 10% discount. All of the staff was friendly and courteous. Matt, the guide/narrator, was very good and most informative. You were able to hear him clearly through his mask. The scenery was amazing and magnificent. You may choose to ride in an open or closed car and to walk about during the ride. The train stops at an old water station and you can get off to walk around. They invite you to visit the engine car and talk to the train engineer. He told me he had the best office view and I totally agreed! You can also visit the caboose. There is also an old railroad caboose you can walk through and take pics. They have a gift shop car on the train that offers souvenirs, various foods and drinks. I highly recommend this train ride ud83dude01ud83dudc4dud83dudc4dud83dudc4dud83dudc4dud83dudc4d

We visited on a Sunday afternoon in October. The forecast called for Rain maybe snow and we got a good amount of cold and snow. Overall the train ride was good. As the skies cleared you could tell this would have been a great view of the surrounding landscape. There were no heaters on the train but we were able to be in an enclosed car which provided a little more warmth. If we had not had the snow for on board snowmen and snowballs then my kids, aged 11, 9, 6, and 4 might have gotten bored. It was nice to have the warm beverages on board. My wife and little one got stuck sitting on the uphill side of the car and the views were nothing compared to the downhill side(looking at the engine, right hand side). Overall a neat experience made better by the snow for us Texans that don’t see it all that often.

It's an old time train ride. I liked the narrator of the ride. He kept it interesting and threw in a couple of dad jokes. The ride itself is beautiful. You don't go all the way up the mountain or anything but you go a good way up. Bring a sweatshirt if it's not the middle of summer. Do yourself a favor and sit in a car with no windows but still has the roof. It's a very relaxing ride through beautiful scenery and you get a short stop at the end to poke around up the mountain. Just don't leave trash. There was a bunch to pick up that visitors were too lazy to put in their own pockets.

Recommend you sit on the right side of the train (as you are facing the engine). This offers the clearest views of the mountain vistas and valley below. Train moves slowly enough that it is comfortable to sit in the open car. If you are paranoid about the virus, you may need to find another activity. It's very hard to remain constantly apart on a vintage train like this. We were very comfortable with the experience.
