The most prominent feature of Fort Towson Cemetery is the masterfully built (more than) waist-high stone perimeter wall surrounding old Doaksville & the newer Fort Towson Cemeteries. Thru roads, chapel, signage, plot/headstone arrangement are attractive, well planned; tended w/ precision & care. Cemetery grounds, trees are well mowed-n-trimmed. Though some headstones predate the civil war, most markers in respectable shape — easily read. No pavilion, instead a house-like chapel.n✟ The north-most entrance is also trailhead for Old Doaksville Townsite History Trail / Doaksville Archaeological Site. The Internet says ▶ Doaksville was an old trading post. It was the Choctaw Nation Capital at 1 time. The actual fort, Fort Towson, was about a mile or more E of Doaksville. The railroad came through S of Doaksville. The railroad stop was called Fort Towson & the town grew around the railroad stop. The original Doaksville no longer exists but many of the graves do.n✟ Fronting the chapel is a veterans memorial marker.n✟ According to Find•A•Grave there are at least 2,056 burials here.
