We just returned home from our visit to the Cherokee Arts Center n Talequah, OK. It was a wonderful place. There was a gallery of beautiful Cherokee art, a coffee shop, and a gift shop. We were greeted by a young man named Dalton, who introduced us to the gallery and gift shop. Shannon took time out of her day to show us around take us to visit workshops of the artisans. She also helped us set up classes to learn pottery and basketry. Mathew tout the classes. He was a wonderful instructor and story teller. I recommend a visit to the Cherokee Arts Center anytime

We were awed by our visit to the Cherokee Arts Center! We were welcomed by an amazing staff. Dalton first introduced us to the artwork and told us Cherokee stories behind the beautiful artwork at the Spider Gallery, Shannon took us on a tour of the arts center where we had the pleasure of meeting Dorothy Ice, a living national treasure, and then we scheduled pottery and basket weaving classes with Matt! Matt shared his family stories and knowledge as we learned traditional crafts. Each opportunity afforded us insight into the Cherokee culture, traditions, and crafts! In addition, there is an 'incubator business' at the coffee shop that not only made great coffee but provided staff an opportunity to learn how to run a business and create a business plan! I can't rave enough about our experiences at the center and it will be my first stop at future visits to Talequah:) Thank you so very much!
